On July 1, 2026, Amiri A. Amiri joined the Kimitmo Endelevu Arusha (KEA) project to work on the “organic waste recovery and fertilization” component. He is hosted by one of the project’s partners, RECODA, based in Arusha, Tanzania.
The Kilimo Endelevi Arusha II project, funded by AFD from 2025 to 2028, aims to improve the resilience of communities in the Arusha region by supporting sustainable local food systems.
One of the project’s main focuses is specifically on how to meet farmers’ needs for organic matter using local resources, with a view to strengthening urban-rural ties.
We hypothesize that the organic waste generated in the city of Arusha could be converted, through composting, into organic matter needed to restore soil fertility in rural areas.
Amiri A. Amiri will thus work to identify available sources of organic waste and understand the processes involved in the transformation of organic waste, in order to propose technical and economic models for compost production on a scale capable of meeting farmers’ needs for soil amendments.
His work will also help continue the engagement with local authorities that began in Phase I, with the aim of supporting them and strengthening their capacity to serve as regional leaders in fostering the development of sustainable food systems.
