A new network for agroecology in the Mediterranean

A new network for agroecology in the Mediterranean

A multi-stakeholder network is born: MEDAE!

What is MEDAE?

A network of diverse and complementary organisations (universities, research centres, development bodies, farmers, consumers, political organisations, etc.) that believes that the principles of agroecology can provide a relevant and multidimensional response to sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean. 🌱

The strength of the network

  • Collaboration and exchanges of information and knowledge
  • Building political and scientific arguments
  • Representation and visibility of agroecology players in the Mediterranean
  • Seeking funding

What are the prospects for supporting the deployment of agroecology in public policy in North Africa?

Agriculture in North Africa is facing a number of economic, social and environmental challenges (population growth, urbanisation, heavy dependence on agricultural imports, climate change, soil degradation and pressure on natural resources, the challenge of youth employment, etc.).

What national strategies are being put in place to meet these challenges? While agroecology is practised locally by many farmers and can provide a relevant response to these multiple challenges, how are public policies facilitating or hindering the agroecological transition in North Africa? What can be done to ensure that agro-ecology is better taken into account in national policies, particularly through international conventions?

This webinar will present the results of a cross-sectional analysis of public policies in North Africa, as well as an examination of the place of agroecology in international conventions, and will look at the extent to which these policies provide a favourable or unfavourable framework for the agroecological transition.

There will be time for discussion on the prospects for supporting agroecology and ways of encouraging the agroecological transition in North Africa.
