The overall aim of the project is to improve the resilience of oasis and peri-oasis agro-ecosystems by supporting these areas in their agro-ecological transition.
The project is taking place in the communes of Foum Zguid, Allougoum and Tlit in the north-east of the province of Tata in the Souss Massa region.
Agriculture is the main economic activity in these areas. The local agricultural system is largely based on traditional oasis farming with small family farms. These oases face major challenges in an environment marked by climatic, economic and social change. Faced with increasingly severe climatic constraints, ill-adapted national policies and the difficulty of making agriculture attractive, the oases are gradually deteriorating.
