CARI welcomed a new member in September! Marius Guiradoum Nangar has just arrived from Chad and has settled in Viols-le-Fort for 6 months.
Marius is of Chadian origin and is 24 years old. He has a scientific baccalauréat and a degree in biology. Following his training, Marius had several professional experiences in the agricultural field: trainee at the first Laboratory of Seeds and Plants (LABOSEM), agricultural technician at LEAD TCHAD, accompaniment in the setting up of agroecological farms in the flooded perimeters of N’Djamena (Chad).
Marius is arriving as part of the Volunteers for the Great Green Wall (GGW) programme. The GGW initiative is part of a drive to provide concrete, sustainable solutions to environmental and human development issues in dry areas of Africa.
The GMV Volunteers Programme aims to increase the deployment of volunteers working on issues relating to the fight against desertification, to raise awareness among young people of the issues relating to climate change, including those relating to drought, to circulate and strengthen the skills of those involved in the GMV project and to consolidate cooperation links between organisations and networks.
For 6 months, Marius will be analysing the strategies used by farmers in dry areas to manage the risks of drought: anticipation, impact mitigation, etc. A specific focus will be placed on agroecological practices to limit the impact of drought.
This work will enable Marius to be supported by the CARI team working on this issue, and he will also be in contact with a number of farmers in the department and in Chad. This will enable him to build up his knowledge of agro-ecological farming practices. Marius is also involved with an association in Chad (LEAD Chad, a CARI partner for many years). He will be able to share his experience with LEAD on his return.
