End of mission for our Volunteer in International Solidarity

Marie-Ange Sawadogo, our international solidarity volunteer with the PASS-LCD project and France Volontaire‘s Volontaire pour la Grande Muraille Verte program, completed her mission in February 2025.

Hosted in the offices of the Senegalese NGO ENDA Pronat for 1 year, her missions enabled her to support the coordination of the PASS-LCD, notably on the Great Green Wall Initiative component, to accompany the Sahelian partners of the Réseau Sahel Désertification and ENDA Pronat in the process of strengthening and enhancing the role of civil society organizations in the implementation and achievement of the Great Green Wall (GGW) objectives.

Our volunteer’s work mainly involved analyzing the contribution of Sahelian civil society organizations (CSOs) to the implementation of the GGW and initiating a characterization of these CSOs, with a preliminary bibliographical study and several semi-structured interviews with various CSOs in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Chad.

In addition, facilitating access to information for Sahelian CSOs on the progress of the GGW and on the tools put in place to monitor its results, represents an important challenge for promoting the appropriation of the initiative’s objectives by civil society stakeholders and its implementation on territories.

To this end, our young volunteer has produced a series of deciphering notes to help understand 3 mechanisms for monitoring the results of the GGW:

– The Platform of Non-State Actors of the Great Green Wall (PaneGMV) set up by the NGO SOS Sahel.

– The National Coordination of the Great Green Wall in Burkina Faso, under the supervision of the country’s Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development.

– The Great Green Wall Observatory of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

Find the report on the characterization and analysis of the contribution of Sahelian CSOs to the objectives of the GGW, as well as the 3 deciphering notes in the resource center.
