Just over a year ago, the AVACLIM project came to an end!
Here’s a look back at this ambitious project, which brought together civil society and research players from 9 countries to contribute to the development of agro-ecology in drylands.
You will find a summary of some of the key activities carried out in each country. These sheets are not intended to be exhaustive, but rather to highlight the diversity of the actions that have been carried out in each of the AVACLIM project countries.

Countries involved: Burkina Faso, Senegal, Morocco, Ethiopia, South Africa, Brazil and India
Main project objective: to create the conditions necessary for the deployment of agroecology in arid zones.
Specific objectives :
- 1. Building the capacity of agro-ecology stakeholders
building up a community of agro-ecological practices in each country by organising exchanges of experience and promoting joint reflection, at both national and international level. To identify and characterise agroecological initiatives in each country.
- 2. Evaluating agro-ecological initiatives
in 14 areas (7 countries), making it possible to a) identify and measure the results and impacts of agro-ecological practices in the environmental, agronomic, economic and social fields and b) identify and analyse the factors determining their development and success;
- 3. Develop and implement scientifically-based advocacy initiatives
based in particular on a multi-criteria evaluation of agroecological initiatives, in favour of public policies favourable to agroecology, at both national and international level.
- 4. Develop and implement monitoring, capitalisation and communication initiatives
