The Dictionary of agroecology (DicoAE)

Since 2017, the French national research institute for agriculture, food and the environment (INRAE) has been running a project to produce a dictionary on agroecology, in collaboration with the various players working on agroecology (scientists, teachers, students, etc). The aim is to be able to disseminate knowledge on agroecology and facilitate access to it for all.

This tool provides synthetic definitions of agroecology terms and concepts. The definitions are co-constructed by scientists, students and teachers, who debate them before establishing common definitions. These definitions can also evolve according to comments left by users. The writings are complemented and illustrated by educational videos featuring testimonials from people working in the field who talk about their practices. The authors also provide bibliographical references for further reading on the subject.

Available in French and English, the Dictionary of Agroecology is aimed at a wide audience, including agricultural professionals, teachers, students, development professionals, etc. Currently, more than 150 definitions and 50 illustrative videos are available.

In July 2024, a paper version of the dictionary will be published in co-publication with QUAE and Educagri, in a paying paper version and in a free digital version in eBook format on the QUAE website.

  • Propose new terms to the editorial committee.
  • Comment on the definitions posted online.
  • Write a definition of a terminology.
  • Add value to an expertise during in-depth exchanges.
