Following the signing of the partnership agreement with the Agricultural Development Agency (ADA) in Rabat on 11 December, the launch ceremony for the project’s activities, scheduled for 29 January in Foum Zguid, Tata Province, will officially mark the start of the Support Project for Agroecological Initiatives in Oasis Areas in Morocco – PIAZO-M.
This project, led by CARI and ALCESDAM (Association for the Fight against Erosion, Drought and Desertification in Morocco), aims to strengthen the resilience of three municipalities in the Foum Zguid district, in the province of Tata, at the gateway to the Moroccan desert, by promoting the agroecological transition of these territories and the oasis farms that comprise them.
Implemented over a period of 36 months, the project’s initial activities will consist of setting up and running a living laboratory aimed at stimulating exchanges between the various stakeholders in the region on the preservation and promotion of oases, as well as conducting work to characterise the region and its farms in order to develop courses of action and support that are truly adapted to local issues and the needs of farmers. These actions will then be implemented on two scales – that of farms and that of municipalities – and monitoring will continue until the end of the project.
To support them in implementing the project’s planned activities, the CARI and ALCESDAM teams will be able to count on an international solidarity volunteer, Elisa Tricaud, a newly graduated and highly motivated agricultural engineer who arrived in Morocco a few days ago.
All systems are go for the launch of the PIAZO-M project. We will be sure to keep you informed about upcoming activities and initial results!
